A four speed box - your reaction initally was the same as mine quickly leading to this being one of the joys of our simple machines and a total throw back to the big singles of the pre and post war periods is our 4 speed trannies.
Then the Savage was introduced it was a 4 speed - it was sold in North American markets until about 1989 this way and then dropped from the line up. When reintroduced in the mid 90's - they slightly changed the gear rations and snuck in a 5th gear.
The gearing on the 4 speed is differently spaced but entirely adequate to highway speeds.
Relax and enjoy it - means less shifting and that saves boot leather - lol
